Church Lane, Warblington

Street guide, Havant

Church Lane in Warblington leads from the main road down to St Thomas a Becket Church and the ruins of Warblington Castle. The lane has a distinctly rural character, narrow and hedged, with open fields visible on either side. It is one of the quietest and most atmospheric lanes in the entire Havant area, leading from the suburban streets to a churchyard that has stood here since before the Norman Conquest. The castle ruins, a single tower and fragments of wall, stand beside the church and can be seen from the lane. At the southern end, the lane gives access to the harbour shore path. Walking down Church Lane is to step from the modern residential world into a landscape that has changed little in centuries. It is one of the hidden treasures of the Havant borough.
