West Street

Street guide, Havant

West Street runs west from the central crossroads towards Bedhampton and is one of the four historic streets of Havant. The street has a mixed character, with shops, takeaways and service businesses near the crossroads giving way to residential properties further west. The Bear Hotel, one of Havant's oldest buildings, stands close to the junction with the other principal streets. West Street carries traffic heading towards Bedhampton and the A27, making it busier than the quieter residential streets off the main routes. Some older buildings survive along the street, though much of the frontage has been replaced or altered over the decades. The street serves as a practical commercial and residential corridor connecting the town centre to the western suburbs.
