Langstone

Tiny waterside hamlet with the iconic Langstone Mill, the Royal Oak pub, harbour views, and outstanding birdwatching.

Langstone is a small waterside hamlet on the western edge of the Havant area, perched on the shore of Langstone Harbour. The settlement is tiny, consisting of a handful of houses, the Royal Oak pub, and the striking Langstone Mill, a former tide mill that stands at the water's edge and is one of the most photographed buildings in the area. The old wadeway across to Hayling Island is visible at low tide, a historic route superseded by the modern road bridge further south. Langstone Harbour itself is a large tidal inlet, an SSSI and part of the Chichester and Langstone Harbours SPA, supporting internationally important populations of wading birds and wildfowl. The harbour dries extensively at low tide, revealing vast mudflats that attract brent geese, dunlin, redshank and curlew. Langstone has an atmospheric, end-of-the-road quality that makes it a popular destination for walkers, birdwatchers and photographers. The Billy Trail, a walking and cycling path, connects Langstone to Havant town centre along the route of a disused railway.
