Havant Town Centre

Historic market town crossroads with The Springs shopping centre, St Faith's Church, and a mix of period buildings and modern retail.

Havant town centre is the commercial and civic heart of the borough, built around the historic crossroads where East Street, West Street, North Street and South Street meet. This junction has been the centre of Havant life since the medieval period, when the town held a market charter. The Pallant, a pedestrianised area just south of the crossroads, preserves some of the town's older character. The Springs shopping centre, built in the 1980s, provides the main covered retail space with a mix of high street chains and independent traders. Market Parade and the surrounding streets have cafes, charity shops, hairdressers and everyday services. St Faith's Church stands at the eastern edge of the centre on East Street, and the Bear Hotel, one of the oldest buildings in Havant, sits near the crossroads. The town centre has been shaped by successive redevelopments since the 1960s, and the mix of modern retail units and surviving period buildings gives it an uneven character. But it remains the place where Havant's civic, commercial and social life comes together, with the library, council offices and bus routes all centred here.
